Dan Y Graig’s Vincent Barton is the toast of Team West Wales after being shortlisted in The Care Home Registered Manager category at this year’s National Care Awards.
Vincent won the nomination by impressing judges with his exceptional leadership skills and ability to build and maintain a consistent, motivated team.
According to Regional Manager Kuba Nowak, Vincent has gone over and above to ensure his team has the right support to do their best work.
Kuba said: “Vincent is a terrific manager, leading by example to get the very best out of the team at Dan Y Graig.
“One of the most effective things he’s done is to adjust his working hours to connect with colleagues who work the night shift, so they get important messages directly and feel included with the team.
“He’s also fostered a culture at the service where the team feel comfortable bringing up any concerns and asking for extra support where they need it.
“This has enabled Vincent to identify the areas where colleagues might need extra training or development to build skills and confidence.
“From there, he’s collaborated with the Learning and Development team to offer workshops and specialised training. This approach has been very successful.”
But Vincent hasn’t stopped there – he’s also made a huge impact on the service by becoming a Welsh language champion.
Kuba added: “One of the people supported at Dan Y Graig speaks Welsh as their first language, so Vincent has worked to enhance the Welsh language skills at the service.
“He’s labelled everyday items in Welsh around the home and appointed language champions to do spot checks, as well as taking Welsh classes himself.
“This has meant the world to the parents of the person supported at Dan Y Graig because it helps their son feel fully understood and at home.”
The positive outcomes don’t stop there, as Vincent has also recently aced a Provider Assessment Report.
Kuba said: “Vincent has been proactive in responding to internal audits and implementing action plans, so Dan Y Graig scored 100% compliance in the most recent report.
“This excellence in his work means it has come as no surprise that Vincent would be shortlisted for the National Care Awards.
“His work is exemplary, and his positive impact on his team and the people they support is exceptional.
“We are very proud of Vincent and hope he wins the trophy he so richly deserves.”
