Walking Enthusiast Tom To Trek 100 Miles In May For Cancer Charity

Seaham View’s Tom has set himself the ultimate walking challenge this May, and it’s all in the name of charity.

As a keen walker, Tom was eager to put his hobby to good use when he discovered Cancer Research UK’s Walk 100 Miles In May initiative.

Since he often clears over 30,000 steps on his most active days, Tom wanted to up the ante for this challenge.

So, he’s only counting dedicated walks towards his 100 miles, not his usual day-to-day pottering around the service and to the shops.

Service Manager Stuart Healer says Tom’s dedication and energy are awe-inspiring.

Stuart said: “It’s only the 11th of May, and Tom’s already done 60 miles!

“There’s no doubt in our minds that he’ll smash the 100-mile target and clock up many more.

“He’s an incredible guy and just loves to walk, so it’s great that he can turn that positivity into something that’ll benefit people living with cancer.”

Tom is taking donations on his fundraising page, which can be found here.

The total is already £1660, and the intrepid walker hopes to hand over a sizeable donation.

As well as helping Cancer Research, Tom’s adventure is doing wonders for his support team.

Stuart said: “If you are supporting Tom, you’ll be getting plenty of steps in!

“The Support Workers here at Seaham View are getting fitter by being with Tom.

“He’s certainly getting us all moving more!”
