Wembley Dream comes True for Sunderland Superfan

One football fan’s dream of seeing Sunderland A.F.C play at Wembley came true thanks to Team Cedars.

When Pete* watched his home team storm into the Sky League One final and a showdown with Wycombe, he was desperate to be there in person. However, the match had already sold out, and time was tight to secure tickets, book travel and final accommodation.

But Deputy Manager Terry Bayliss and his colleagues didn’t let that stop them as they pulled together to organise the surprise of a lifetime. Terry said:

“As soon as Pete told us how much he’d love to get to Wembley and see Sunderland play, we sprung into action. Support Worker, Mandy Yates, was his fairy godmother as she managed to get two tickets because one of her friends had to sell them due to illness. Team Leader, Ian Hair and Support Worker, Steven Thynne got their heads together to arrange the coach journey and accommodation near the stadium. When we told Pete that he was heading to Wembley after all, he had the biggest grin you’ve ever seen on his face!”

The boys travelled down to London the night before the game to soak up the pre-match atmosphere in Trafalgar Square with fellow Black Cats fans. But after a good night’s sleep, it was time to head to Wembley to see if Sunderland A.F.C could break their losing streak at the legendary sports ground.

“Pete must be Sunderland’s lucky charm because after six losses they won this time and got promoted to the Championship!  He was over the moon to have been part of such an incredible sporting moment. To see his face afterwards was magical, and he hasn’t stopped talking about how amazing it was. We were thrilled to be able to help Pete tick this off his bucket list!”
